Global climate change has already impacted earth’s environment discernibly. Increasing global temperatures, rising seas, acidifying oceans and melting glaciers are just some of the apparent signs of the human influence on our planet.
To educate the next-generation about the causes and impacts of climate change, the IBS Center for Climate Physics (ICCP) at Pusan National University launched in June a new outreach and science education program in collaboration with Busan International Foreign School and Busan Foreign School. High school students from these schools will be given the opportunity to work with international climate scientists in summer internships and attend scientific symposium organized by the ICCP. ICCP researchers will also give regular public lectures at these schools on emerging topics of environmental change.
“This program will entrain high-school students in cutting-edge climate change research projects. We hope to enhance the scientific curiosity of participating students and raise their awareness to the complex issue of climate change and climate justice” said Director Timmermann after signing the Memoranda of Understanding with both schools.
