We will consider some basic properties of turbulent flows. Topics covered include: The Kolmogorov and Batchelor scales, flow instabilities, the turbulent kinetic energy equation, inferring turbulent diffusivity from measurements of the kinetic energy dissipation rate, and the spectra of 3D and 2D turbulence.
